About Our Journey

How a love for South Africa's forgotten coastlines became a mission to share them responsibly.

Where It All Began

In 2009, two friends set out on a road trip with no particular destination. They followed unmarked roads, stopped in towns too small for most maps, and found themselves welcomed into communities that had rarely seen tourists.

Those conversations over coffee in fishing village kitchens planted a seed. There were travellers seeking authentic experiences, and there were communities that could benefit from thoughtful tourism. The missing piece was a bridge between them.

What started as informal introductions to favourite spots has grown into a structured operation, yet the core remains unchanged: personal connections, deep local knowledge, and a commitment to ensuring tourism enriches rather than extracts from these places.

What Guides Our Work

Principles that shape every itinerary, partnership, and recommendation.

Community First

Tourism should benefit those who live in these places year-round. We partner with locally owned guesthouses, hire guides from the communities themselves, and ensure that visitor spending circulates within the local economy.

  • Local employment priority
  • Community consultation
  • Revenue sharing models

Quiet Impact

We deliberately limit group sizes and avoid promoting destinations that cannot absorb visitors without changing their character. Some places are shared only with those who demonstrate genuine interest and respect.

  • Small group maximums
  • Seasonal restrictions
  • Environmental awareness

Honest Representation

These are not luxury resorts. Accommodation is comfortable but simple. Roads can be rough. Weather dictates schedules. We set accurate expectations so visitors arrive ready to engage with places as they are.

  • Transparent descriptions
  • Realistic expectations
  • Authentic experiences

The People Behind The Journeys

Our team is small by design. Each member has spent years exploring these coastlines, building relationships with local families, and developing an understanding that cannot be rushed.

Several of our guides were born in the towns they now introduce to visitors. Others arrived as travellers years ago and never quite managed to leave. What unites them is a genuine enthusiasm for sharing places they love with people who will appreciate them.

We do not use scripts. Every conversation, every detour, every recommendation comes from personal experience and ongoing relationships with community members.

Recognition Along The Way

External validation matters less than the quiet thank-you messages from communities and travellers, but these acknowledgements have helped amplify our approach.
